Buranda railway station is located on the Cleveland line in Queensland, Australia. It is one of two stations serving the Brisbane suburb of Woolloongabba, the other being Park Road.

West of the station, the line joins the Beenleigh line via a triangle junction.[1]

History

Buranda station opened in 1889 as Logan Road station, being renamed Buranda in July 1917.[2][3][4][5]

On 15 July 1996, the Fisherman Islands line to the Port of Brisbane opened to the north of the station.[6][7]

In the early hours of 29 March 2009, the main station building on platform one was destroyed by fire.[8] A 17-year-old man was later charged with one count of arson following the incident.[9]

From 8 January 2024, the station was temporarily closed for an accessibility upgrade. This upgrade includes additions of lifts, raised platforms, hearing loops and disability compliant ticket windows. It is expected to reopen in 2025.[10] During this upgrade, trains do not stop at this station.

Services

The station is served by Cleveland line services from Shorncliffe, Northgate, Doomben and Bowen Hills to Cannon Hill, Manly and Cleveland.[11] During the accessibility upgrade, trains do not stop at this station.

Adjacent to the station lies Buranda busway station that is served by Transport for Brisbane bus services.[14]
