Nazwy większości gór zawierają jedno z następujących słów:
- Mons: duża, samotna góra.
- Montes, liczba mnoga od mons: góry, łańcuch górski.
- Tholus: wulkan tarczowy.
- Tholi, liczba mnoga od tholus: grupa (zazwyczaj rozrzuconych) wulkanów tarczowych.
- Dorsa, liczba mnoga od dorsum: grzbiety.
