Ealdred (atau Aldred;^[1] † 11 September 1069) adalah Abbas Tavistock, Uskup Worcester, dan Uskup Agung York di Inggris awal abad pertengahan. Dia terkait dengan sejumlah rahib lain pada periode itu. Setelah menjadi rahib biara di Winchester, ia diangkat menjadi Abbas Tavistock sekitar tahun 1027. Pada 1046 ia diangkat ke Keuskupan Worcester. Ealdred, selain tugas episkopalnya, melayani Edward sang Pengaku, Raja Inggris, sebagai diplomat dan pemimpin militer. Dia bekerja untuk membawa salah satu kerabat raja, Edward Ætheling, kembali ke Inggris dari Hungaria untuk mengamankan pewaris raja yang tidak memiliki keturunan.

Pada tahun 1058 ia berziarah ke Yerusalem, uskup pertama dari Inggris yang melakukannya.^[2] Sebagai administrator Keuskupan Hereford, ia terlibat dalam pertempuran melawan Wales, menderita dua kekalahan di tangan perampok sebelum mengamankan penyelesaian dengan Gruffydd ap Llywelyn, seorang penguasa Wales.

Pada tahun 1060, Ealdred terpilih menjadi uskup agung York tetapi mengalami kesulitan dalam memperoleh persetujuan paus untuk pengangkatannya, berhasil melakukannya hanya ketika dia berjanji untuk tidak memegang keuskupan York dan Worcester secara bersamaan. Dia membantu mengamankan pemilihan Wulfstan sebagai penggantinya di Worcester. Selama menjadi uskup agung, ia membangun dan menghiasi gereja-gereja di keuskupannya, dan bekerja untuk meningkatkan klerusnya dengan mengadakan sinode yang menerbitkan peraturan-peraturan untuk imamat.

Beberapa sumber mengatakan bahwa setelah kematian Raja Edward sang Pengaku pada tahun 1066, Ealdred yang menobatkan Harold Godwinson sebagai Raja Inggris.^[3] Ealdred mendukung Harold sebagai raja, tetapi ketika Harold dikalahkan di Pertempuran Hastings, Ealdred mendukung Edgar Ætheling dan kemudian mendukung Raja William Sang Penakluk, Adipati Normandia dan kerabat jauh Raja Edward. Ealdred menobatkan Raja William pada Hari Natal tahun 1066. William tidak pernah cukup mempercayai Ealdred atau para pemimpin Inggris lainnya, dan Ealdred harus menemani William kembali ke Normandia pada tahun 1067, tetapi dia telah kembali ke York pada saat kematiannya pada tahun 1069.
