In 1948, the Dhaka Leaguewhich also went by Dhaka First Division League or Dhaka Senior Division League, was officially recognized and functioned as the top-tier football league of East Bengal (1948–1954), East Pakistan (1955–1948), and eventually Bangladesh following the country's independence in 1971. B.League (2007–2009)
In 2007, the B.League was introduced as Bangladesh's first professional national football league. It replaced the 1948 established semi–professional Dhaka League/Dhaka Premier Division League (currently the third-tier) as the country's top-tier. In an attempt to decentralise domestic football Bangladesh Football Federation introduced the professional league and gave entry to clubs from Khulna, Chittagong and Sylhet in the first edition. Previously the Dhaka League only allowed clubs from Dhaka to participate in the country's top division.
